DS Studio was commissioned to develop a Privately Owned Public Space (POPS) in the North Alley outdoor space of 70 York Street in Toronto. Our mandate was to activate the underutilized Financial District alley with public seating, workspaces and the opportunity for public programming. Our design features a custom concrete bench that travels the length of the site and recalls the historic arches of 70 York with its curvature. This custom bench includes integrated lighting, tray tables and pergola shading. These interventions work to create a welcoming destination which transforms the character of the street and provides opportunity for public engagement.

70 York Street is managed by Colliers Real Estate Management Services. The project is a collaboration between MASSIVart, Colliers, and PrimeInvest Management Inc to activate the building and engage the community through art.
