WoodGate is a mass timber public art installation by DS Studio, designed as a landmark urban design feature at King William and James Street in Hamilton, Ontario. Crafted from Canadian Douglas Fir Glulam with a steel base, the sculptural structure integrates a concealed retractable gate arm that allows the street to close for pedestrian festivals and public events. Combining architecture, public art, seating, planting, ambient lighting, and civic functionality, WoodGate creates an accessible urban amenity that supports gathering, placemaking, and community life while enhancing Hamilton’s public realm.
